Weight loss has been a hot topic for me lately. More of my clients are looking to lose weight and keep it off. Most of them have tried all kinds of diets that haven't worked. The biggest secret to weight loss is THERE IS NO SECRET. Not to oversimplify it here, but weight loss is simple. Just like anything else in life, if you know WHY you want something, you can accomplish anything. What do I mean by that?

You can look at WHY as a reason or motivation. Unless you have enough WHY to accomplish something, you will have to use sheer will and force to get to where you want to be.

In light of the topic of weight loss, I invited weight loss expert, motivational speaker, and raw food coach, Philip McCluskey to share with us what it took for him to lose over 200 lbs on a raw food diet.  Philip has traveled all around the world sharing his message and inspiring people to loss weight through raw foods, herbs and superfoods.

For some folks, like Philip, he just reached a place where he had to change. You will see WHY Philip had to change, and what kept him going.

Thank you Philip for such great information. It's so amazing that you stuck with it so long and stayed determined to feel good.

There are a lot of great lessons in this short little video. The one that sticks out the most for me is staying committed. There were so many times over the course of those few years that Philip could have caved in. And against all odds, he pulled through and continues to find his next level of health. Philip is a great inspiration.

Philip and his lovely wife Casey have a great online 10 day cleanse program called Get Juicy Cleanse. Go to http://www.getjuicycleanse.com/sp/9408-get-juicy-cleanse-10-day-program-detox-cleanse to watch the brief video and see what it's all about. I am not affiliated with this program, nor do I receive and commission for it. I just believe in what Philip is doing and wanted to share it with you. I also like to be up front about things like that.

If you have an inspiring health story share it in the comments section of the video. Inspire others with your story of victory.

Want more energy?

One of the most common questions I get from people is "How do I get more energy without drinking coffee all day?" To help me answer this question, I have Elwin Robinson, creator of High Energy Academy, Lion Heart Herbs and author of The Easy Exhaustion Cure.

In this interview Elwin goes into some of the specifics of how to create energy and what really move the needle. One really important point Elwin makes here is that food doesn't necessarily give you energy. It actually takes you more energy to digest food. A simple strategy to increase your energy naturally could be as simple as breathing deeper, getting more fresh air, and regular exercise.

Watch this video if you are looking for some easy and practical techniques to naturally have more energy. Right around nine minutes, Elwin gives us a great framework for covering the basics of your health, and a little later in the video, three Chinese herbs to boost your health.

Our bodies and minds are sooooo interesting! Over the last few months I have immersed myself in the study of human behavior and emotions. Our emotional content, how we feel is often overlooked by what our mind tells us. Most of the time our conscious mind is finding ways to meet our emotional needs. Usually we meet our needs based on what we have available in our mental database as "those things I can get to make me feel 'a feeling'". It goes a little something like this...

If we "follow the trail of our emotional content" we will find a lot of interesting things. I'm going to chunk this statement down so it makes more sense.

Follow the trail... Find what really motivates you. Trace the desire, want or preference back to it's origin. For example the statement... "I want a new car." Now if we explore this we will find some more truth in the content of this statement. I want a new car because my car is old. I don't like the way my car drives. The new one looks better. I'll feel better driving my new car. It will make me feel good. I'll feel proud. I'll feel accomplished... If we follow the trail of our emotional content what we discover is the true feeling behind what we think we want. In this example the want for a new car is really the feeling of accomplishment, of feeling proud. And even before that there was a whole bunch of other shtuff, of things that were comparisons, likes, dislikes and so on. The point here is use your emotions to guide you. Feel pride and feel accomplished. Explore what is in your emotional content for your wants, your reactions...

Our emotions can be our Secret Messenger. Sometimes the "thing" we are looking for in the outer world to satisfy our needs may not actually be what we are looking for. By understanding what feeling we really want to experience we begin to align with who we really are and what it is we are truly looking for. Have fun with this and see what comes up!

There are so many ways to achieve sanity, to feel good and get the results you want. One of them is to carefully select our thoughts. As you see your thoughts, you have the choice to select empowering ones or defeating. Select thoughts as if you could turn the pages of a book, finding what is perfect for you in that moment, ultimately something clicks. You find that perfect thought, you feel good, and you instantly free up energy. You are liberated. Today as a practice, a discipline if you will, choose empowering thoughts. Choose thoughts that affirm who you are, what you love and who you want to become. When you catch yourself saying I don't want x, y or z, shift to imagine what you do want. See it clearly as if you already have what it is you choose. Feel how you feel now that you are or have that thing. Emotion, desire is what drives a thing into our physical existence.

Monitor your feelings and carefully select your thoughts. Notice what shows up in your life as a result of your own practice, your commitment to only accept into your mind and feeling what you are ultimately aligned with.

I know this is a lot easier said than done. From my own personal experience this is a ongoing reminder, a daily application. One key for me and a lot of the people I work with is to make sure we are BREATHING. It is amazing how as soon as stress hits, we hold our breaths. I we do that for too long (don't test this at home!) you will pass out! In that moment when you are overcome by the tidal wave from the ocean of emotion, breathe into the tightness and then select you action carefully.

Have fun with this and if you can do with someone you love. Make it a game.
The past couple weeks have been a wild ride! Last weekend I started Friday with a day of juice and continued all day Saturday. Sunday I started the Arise and Shine intestinal Cleanse, a version of the Cleanse 14 I did last year around this time. My experience I am sharing here is just for the sake of my own expression. I am not recommending any do the cleanse this way unless you are a very experienced cleanser or you are working with a qualified professional!

The first day of the cleanse, I did green juice and water. Then I made sure my pH was at a point to safely transition into a water fast and went for it. So for the next 6 days I committed to water, psyllium seed and bentonite clay shakes, and the herb formulas Chomper and Herbal Nutrition. WOW! What an adventure!

The first three days like most cleanses in my experience were by far the toughest as energy challenges and detox sets in. Then once that passed, I was in the clear. I started off every day with an enema and then on to the rest of the day of shakes and herbs. I love doing a good cleanse where my only focus is to be clear and clean. Even though I was only drinking water for those six to seven days, no solid foods or other flavors,it was really simple. Now simple is relative here. For me it was easy because I knew my objective, and my commitment. If you play it like a game and make the rules easy, you are sure to win!

I feel so clear now after my cleanse I am actually craving how I felt when I wasn't eating! How funny is that! My biggest benefit is having amazingly efficient digestion, assimilation, and elimination. I have been feeling so clear and clean after eating and going to the bathroom! If you are offended by potty talk, get over it, everyone does it naturally! When it doesn't happen that is when problems start to occur.

Benefit #1
So back to the poop talk... The first day I started to eat again I could feel my food moving through my Intestines. It was really cool! I can usually feel my food moving through, and this time it was like I was watching my food being digested and moved for elimination while it was moving around my colon! Such a cool sensation.

Benefit #2

I love being in shape and moving my body. This past winter I noticed I seemed to have a little extra baby fat around my midsection I wanted to see if the cleanse would metabolize that, it did quite well!

I detoxed substances from my past, and I fell so clear mentally. I feel so refreshed! As you may know the gut is directly related to the head/brain. Eat a heavy meal and then try to think a lot or sit down and do some memory exercises. Probably not going to work out too well. These are just some of the benefits I noticed right away, there are many more I won't get into here.

These are just some of the benefits of doing a cleanse, many cleanses. There are so many to choose from in the marketplace, it seems overwhelming at times. Green juice feasts are great ways to cleanse the body rest the digestive system, and help regenerate while still getting a fair bit of nutrition. If you are a beginner, make sure you have some kind of support group and guidance along the way to ensure you have a safe experience. And as always, if you have any comments or questions leave them below!

What cleanses have you done that work for you and why do you like them?

I did this cleanse last year around this time for the 14 days. The first 7 days I ate food and the second week I did water as well, I will blog about that in another article, so stay tuned for that! I even have pictures of the plaque that came out on the last night of my cleanse! That will also be in the post, so get ready!

I was inspired, and still am, to do a day of green juice today. I love having one day a week where I give my body a recess from solid foods, and consume only juice, smoothies or water. This is something that I did for years, and for some reason got out of the habit of doing it. I am sure you all can relate! So I went to the health food store this morning and here was the result!
One gallon of high quality green juice! Yup green juice. People ask me a lot, how many vegetables does it take to make that much juice? Well for this gallon I used
  • 3 heads of celery
  • 3 lbs granny smith apples
  • 1.5 bunches lacinato kale
  • 4 lemons
  • LARGE chunk of ginger (I love ginger!!)
  • 4 zucchini (about 1.5 lbs)
  • half a habanero pepper (HOT HOT HOT!)
  • 1 bunch cilantro
All this was just about a gallon of juice and cost about $25. Now the cost will fluctuate depending on the price of produce where you live, and what you like to put in your juice. If you are planning on doing an extended juice feast where you drink juice every day for 7, 10, 30, 60, or 90 days, now you know about what it would take to do something like that.

Today I chose to do a day of juice because it just seemed like a good idea. It's about 4 pm now, and I feel clear, alert, calm and on purpose. This is a great way to allow your body to rest, rejuvenate and clear out some of the old to bring in the new!

Enjoy this great interview I just did with owner and founder of Radical Health, David Favor! Thank you David for your time and your Wisdom!

In this video David and I talk about SSRIs and MAO inhibitors. These are a class of drugs that are used to treat depression. David speaks about how these drugs work and he offers some simple solutions on how to kick depression naturally!

This morning I have been contemplating the word Discipline. I just got done with my morning workout and I was about to get in the shower. For some reason discipline popped into my head and here I am writing on the nature of Discipline. Discipline is a funny word that has taken on pretty interesting meaning. According to Webster's, discipline is punishment, instruction, field of study, training that corrects, molds or perfects the mental faculties or moral character. Control gained by enforcing obedience or order. Orderly or prescribed conduct or patter of behavior. Self-control. A rule or system of rules governing conduct or activity... I know the root word of discipline is disciple, which we all know what we think of when that word comes up. Follower, Jesus, Bible...

Depending on your background, that word can have many meanings and could even be envoking a reaction. I found that the root word of disciple is Discipula (feminine) or Discipulus (masculine) coming from dicere, meaning "to learn".

Dictionary.com defines discipline like this. Training to act in accordance with rules; drill: military discipline. Activity, exercise, or a regimen that develops or improves a skill; training: A daily stint at the typewriter is excellent discipline for a writer. Punishment inflicted by way of correction and training. The rigor or training effect of experience, adversity, etc.: the harsh discipline of poverty. Behavior in accord with rules of conduct; behavior and order maintained by training and control: good discipline in an army.

I find it really funny how over time, from when the Latin root word dicere came about till now, we have successfully attached our feeling, pain, punishment, control, and the like, associated with "to learn".

As you go about your day today, what are you focused on and what feelings are you attaching to your habits, disciplines, life practices? Are they serving you, and if not, are you willing to change to what is truly thriving you in your life?

Today and every day,
